2025 Poppy Season has been extreamly busy for the group. Starting back in September Merlin started with the initial organising for the village Remembrance parade. Then things really kicked off on the 6th November with the Typhoon Scout Section taking part in the Civic Festival of Remembrance with Colonel Rinky Inglis DL Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and the Mayor of Barnsley. Merlin – Gavin Doxey and Rabbit – James Kemp provided District and Group Standard Bearers for the event. Remembrance Sunday and the group were joined by our friends from St John Ambulance for the village parade and we laid wreaths at the war memorial with Merlin reading the exhortation. This was followed by the service in St Pauls Parish Church where Scouts did readings Lead by Group Chairman Cannon Darren Percival BEM. On Remembrance Day itself Merlin and Rabbit joined school children and members of the public to observe 2 min silence and a few poems and readings at the village war memorial with Cannon Darren Percival and Colonel George Kilburn DL Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire. Finally on the 12th of November Merlin – Gavin provided a Union Standard Bearer for Cudworth St Johns Church for their Festival of Remembrance Lead by Cannon Darren Percival with Cawthorne Brass and Lietenant Colonel Mac McPherson MBE DL Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire.
