A very poignant evening this evening Merlin and Roo two of Barnsley Scouts Royal British Legion Qualified Standard Bearers joined the District Chairman and Lead Volunteer, Hoyland British Legion and Barnsley Pals Association and others to commemorate the members of the Barnsley Pals who were killed on the first day of the Battle of The Somme 110 years ago today. The event took place at Silverwood Scout Camp Silkstone Barnsley in the Chapel by the Barnsley Pals Memorial Stone. Hearing all the names followed by the silence was quite moving. Merlin carried the Group Standard and Roo The District Standard.
