Thursday 28th May was a historic day for the Group. Members of our Harrier Cub Pack and Typhoon Air Scout Section along with leaders and Barnsley District Chairman Adrian Eggleston went behind the wire on an arranged visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The team had VIP access to the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with a guided tour in the centre of the hanger. We then met Aimee from 12 Squadron who was our host for the day. Lunch was taken on the edge of the Airfield. Once lunch was over we proceeded to 29 Squadron the home of the Typhoon Display Team. The BAE Team guided members of the team around an aircraft explaining everything they could as they went answering a range of questions from the Cubs and Scouts. After spending time watching the flightline we then went to view the Airfield from Air Traffic Control and have a explanation of their duties and the Radar room below. The Cubs and Scouts behaved impeccably throughout the day and were an absolute credit to the Group. The Group would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Aimee, Fergus and Haydn who facilitated the visit as a whole for all their time and attention and to Colin and the Team at the BBMF for the excellent tour. And finally thank you to Jack The Exodus Project for facilitating our minibus transport. It’s Decades since the Group had an air station visit and we hope to do another soon.
